Controversies affect my family: Priyanka Chopra

Controversies affect my family: Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra might come across as a bold person on the big screen, but she admits that controversies do affect her family.

The former Miss World, who has been in the Hindi film industry for a decade, has been caught in several controversies like a cat-fight with actress Kareena Kapoor and an alleged link-up with married actor Akshay Kumar. The family girl says that such controversies hurt.

"I am very private as a person and I believe that by giving a statement to controversies I am giving importance to them due to which many more articles will pop up. Usually, they are very trivial things. I get very hurt and affected by controversies. I am a very family girl and controversies affect my family. I would rather just keep quiet," Priyanka told media.
"I am very black and white and have always been honest. I believe in honesty, but I don't believe that the entire world should know about my personal life. I am very private which I think is my right," she added.

The 31-year-old has been a part of multilingual films but wants to explore more.

"I have done Hollywood, Bollywood and Tollywood - everything in just one month. I am an actor. Make me do any film. I worship my work. I don't have any priorities nor am I looking for any big crossovers. I like expanding myself and as an artist wherever I can show my creativity in different ways, be it music, acting or anything. I never take my work for granted," she said.

Many actresses like to play safe, but Priyanka tries to do what people don't expect her to. Whether it is playing an autistic girl or learning martial arts, she is game for all difficult tasks.

"I think I am a very weird kind of person. Whatever is difficult I feel like doing that only. My mom always says why stress yourself so much and work for 24 hours? I try and do what people don't expect me to do. It would be easy for me to keep myself in a safe box which is expected as a heroine. I think it's more fun when you push the limits," she said.

She is dedicated and hardworking for sure, but doesn't take her character home.

"During Aitraaz I was so new and got very much involved in my character. I have realised over time I tried to be a method actor, but it doesn't work for me. I am in the character only between the timespan of the action and the cut. After that I get bored. I can't do it. I do a lot of rehearsal and workshops for a few months," she said.

The actress, who is now busy promoting her upcoming film Zanjeer, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, said: "I do films for strange reasons. When Apoorva came to narrate this film we discussed about my character; when he left I thought I will really enjoy working with him; so I did the film."

She says her character Mala, which was played by actress Jaya Bachchan in the original Zanjeer four decades ago, is completely different.

"I am playing a Gujarati girl from New York who comes to attend a wedding. She witnesses a murder and how things change in her life is the story," Priyanka said.

The film also features Ram Charan and is slated for a Sep 7 release.

Madras Cafe earnings skyrocketed John Abraham

Actor-producer John Abraham is thrilled by the box-office collection of his second production venture 'Madras Cafe'. He thanked everyone for "putting faith in my vision for cinema to get progressive".

The audience and even fellow filmmakers have described the film, which is about the civil war in Sri Lanka, as an "intelligent" attempt.

If reports are to be believed, the movie was made on a budget less than Rs.10 crore. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, it earned over Rs.20 crore in its opening weekend.

"I thank all of you for putting faith in my vision for cinema to get progressive. Collections on this film have skyrocketed. A big thank you," John, who has acted and co-produced the Madras Cafe, posted on Twitter.

Madras Cafe Movie Review

Madras Cafe

Critic's Rating:  ****

Madras Cafe : Story: In the early 1990s, India's battling rebel Tamils in Sri Lanka - how many losses win this war?

Review: Straight up, Madras Cafe couldn't be more different to director Shoojit Sircar's Vicky Donor. Political, tense, finally explosive, Madras Cafe is no picnic in the neighborhood park. Major Vikram Singh (Abraham) lands in Sri Lanka, heading RAW's covert operations. He must work with colleague Bala to get Anna Bhaskaran (Rathnam), head of the rebel LTF group - "Also known as Tigers" - to accept a peaceful resolution. Vikram knows Anna will be a huge challenge - what surprises him is how many others he must face.

Madras Cafe dives boldly into terrain Bollywood hasn't touched before. Its arsenal features research, respect and bravely, no songs. But it's not arty or preachy anywhere. Its first half is layered, complex trails - leaks, foreign interests, domestic rivals - slowly revealed to Vikram. As RAW boss Robin Dutt (Basu) ups the pressure, Vikram must move fast through sultry, dangerous airs. His foreign journalist friend Jaya (Fakhri, apparently playing real-life journalist Anita Pratap, who first interviewed LTTE chief Prabhakaran) knows this conflict's heart even better than Vikram, whose discoveries, from Sri Lanka to South Block, grow traumatic.

Madras Cafe's true star is its story which builds up to an agonizing end. It brings to life the Lankan war which many viewers were too young to have known. It highlights India's ambiguous role, moving sensitively, taking no sides, except those of relationships involving respect - but no romance - between Vikram and Jaya, duty, victory and loss. Its second half grows more fraught and taut, conspiracies and compulsions becoming clearer. John stays low-key and competent as Vikram while supporting actors, like agents Bala, SP and Vasu, stand out. Restrained performances by the LTF suicide bombers are chilling.

The cinematography is remarkable, shots of huge naval warships, helicopters floating across hills, sunshine on a deadly sea, haunting. Commendably, Sircar never overindulges in gore, keeping Madras Cafe a shifting site of mental violence. Madras Cafe deserves an extra half-star for guts, going for the gunpowder - but with a restrained hand.

Note: If you like typical Hindi movie masala, unrealistic action or melodrama, this movie is not for you.

Why the film is stalled in Tamil Nadu Madras Cafe

Madras Cafe: Why the film is stalled in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: John Abraham starrer Bollywood film 'Madras Cafe', which has run into protests from students and political parties in Tamil Nadu over alleged portrayal of LTTE in bad light, would not hit screens in Tamil Nadu on Friday, a

body of exhibitors said.

The spy thriller, slated for nationwide release tomorrow, would not be screened in the state, a spokesperson of the Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitors Association told PTI.
The film will not be released in Tamil Nadu," was the cryptic remark by the spokesperson. The decision has apparently been taken in view of strident stand taken by several pro-Tamil groups and political parties, including BJP, against the film, in which Abraham dons the role of an Indian intelligence agent in Sri Lanka during the war between the island government and LTTE in late 1980s and

early 90s.

The move was anticipated as prominent cinema halls in the city did not open advance reservation of tickets.

'Madras Cafe', Abraham's second production venture, courted controversy with pro-Tamil groups up in arms for its depiction of outlawed LTTE allegedly in a negative light.

The producers, who have been maintaining that the film did not offend anyone, arranged for a special screening for the groups, but the latter stuck to their stand.

Student organisations, who have come out against the film, staged a protest for the second successive today, opposing its release alleging that it distorted facts.

'Madras Cafe' is the second film in recent days to miss its release date in the state after Vijay starrer 'Thalaivaa', whose screening was delayed following threats by some groups.

Earlier this year, Kamal Haasan's 'Vishwaroopam' too met a similar fate after Muslim organisations objected to it before the actor brokered peace.

Undeterred, Abraham has refused to delete any scene from his film, wondering why anyone had a problem when the Censor Board had cleared it.

In a statement in Mumbai yesterday, he said, "I would like to urge all of Chennai to support 'Madras Cafe' as a film and allow it to release (as per schedule). It is a credible film made with a lot of heart and gives audiences something novel to be entertained about, vouching and encouraging cinema."

BJP has demanded that the film be not screened anywhere in the country. It also further asked Congress to respond to 'opinions' that the film had its backing and sought a national ban against it, warning of 'unwanted consequences' subsequent to its release.

The film 'demeaned' Tamils by portraying them as terrorists while supporting Sri Lanka, BJP's state unit President Pon Radhakrishnan had said.

DMK chief M Karunanidhi had urged the state government to ascertain if such charges were true and take appropriate action.

MDMK chief Vaiko and Naam Thamizhar Katchi leader Seeman have already sought a ban on the film.

Naam Thamizhar Katchi had in July lodged a petition with police, demanding that the film not be released in the state, citing possible law and order problems.

Amitabh Bachchan opens his family albums

Amitabh Bachchan
Amitabh Bachchan opens his family albums for an ad-film

In what could be considered as the rarest of rare gestures from the very private Amitabh Bachchan, he has given Shoojit Sarcar open access to his personal photo-albums for an ad. Out tumbled the most unique gallery of images showing the Big B as a child and as a young man with his illustrious parents.

Still in a state of disbelief Shoojit says, “These are photos which no one has seen except very close family members. The images show him in his younger days. Then there are pictures with Abhishek and Shweta. It was like the whole history of the Bachchan parivar was unfolding in front of my eyes.”

Just how did this treasure-chest of the Big B’s memories open in front of Shoojit? Elaborates the director, “The concept of the ad was such that Bachchan saab was required to show the connectivity between the present and the past by going through photo albums.

I nervously suggested he use his own personal albums. When he agreed I was over the moon. When I saw all the wonderful pictures I felt I was a part of history.” When asked why he allowed his private pictures in the ad, Bachchan says. “See the ad, and you’ll get your answer.”

Priyanka Chopra finally understand Bollywood

I finally understand Bollywood: Priyanka Chopra

The 31-year-old former Miss World, who is doing commercially viable films like Zanjeer, Krrish 3, Gunday and Mary Kom biopic, says she finally understands the industry.
Priyanka Chopra is happy to have made her way to the top in Bollywood without the help of any godfather and the actress says she is finally at a place where she is being offered challenging roles.

The 31-year-old former Miss World, who is doing commercially viable films like Zanjeer, Krrish 3, Gunday and Mary Kom biopic, says she finally understands the industry.

"I have never been to any acting school and didn't have any clue when I joined. I didn't have a godfather or boyfriend to guide me. I was 18-year-old and it took me a few year to understand the industry.

"I am very fortunate that in the last few years, I have reached a point where filmmakers can see me playing all kind of role. So, now I want to have a mix bag of all kind of cinema," Priyanka said.

In her two upcoming films -- Krrish 3 and Zanjeer, the focus is more on the male leads but Priyanka decided to take up the projects because she liked the script.

"Krrish and Zanjeer are both boy films. But I had no apprehension about being a part of these films because I love to watch them. I am very spontaneous and I do films if I like the script. I don't consider other things." The Barfi! star is the brand ambassador of NDTV's initiative 'Our Girls Our Pride'. Priyanka says her upbringing helped her to understand the campaign in a better way.

"The cause of the girl child has been very close to my heart. My mother is a gynaecologist and my father was a doctor. Since my childhood, I have seen my mother with women and children and she has been a huge influence in my life also. Our sex ratio is 840 girls out of 1000 boys, which is really absurd," said Priyanka, who is also the Goodwill ambassador at UNICEF.

Priyanka, however, wants to keep her movie career and her charity work separate.

Asked whether she would like to take up the cause in her films, the actress said, "No, that would be very unfair. Movies are entertainment and they are fiction. What I do as a person is very different to what I do as an actor. I don't think it is right to put that kind of pressure on movie business. Nobody watches such films. Let's be realistic and not be delusional about it."

Priyanka, who now has a budding international music career, is also looking forward to the release of Disney's animated film Planes.

"I am lucky to be a part of Disney and I think it is every girl's dream to act in a film by them. I am really excited for Planes. It will release on August 23 in India."

Katrina Kaif with Salman Khan to do an item number

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif to do an item number in Atul Agnihotri’s film?

Back in 2011, when 'Bodyguard' released, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif were seen in a special song in the movie, 'Aaya Re Aaya'. Katrina had reportedly agreed to do the song after Salman's sister Alvira and her husband Atul Agnihotri, also the producer of the movie, had requested her to do so. This time, too, for his next production, Atul has apparently managed an encore.

It is rumoured that Katrina will yet again be seen with Salman in a special appearance. While it is not surprising that the latter will be seen in a cameo, the movie reportedly has an item number as well, the audio track of which is currently in production. Though everyone involved with the film is being tight-lipped about the item song, the story doing the rounds is that Katrina has been approached.

Atul, however, maintains that the song is still being worked upon and no leading lady has been approached for it yet. "Guest appearances in movies usually translate into songs. But, honestly, we are still working on the track. Until that is done, I do not have anything else to say," he reveals. The movie in question is a comedy starring Pulkit Samrat and Sarah-Jane Dias. More than 80% of the film has apparently already been shot.

Story: One deadly don. One young protege. Both in love with the same starlet. Who wins the girl in this felonious feat?

Review: Once Upon a Time... Bollywood movies were enamored by dreaded D's of the underworld. They still are. Whether the story is told in retro-rap, or with stylish designer double Dons, or with gloss-free rawness of realism. This endless 'lawless' love affair continues. In OUATIMD, a love triangle forms the bloodline of the story, replete with 'donnisms', molls with maal and an overkill of 'loaded' dialogues pe dialogues.

After Shoaib (Akshay) vanquishes his own gang-guru (in the prequel), he becomes the reigning mafioso with his terror squad spreading far and wide. Of course, Mumbai city wrapped in glam, glory and blood-soaked crime files is still fancied by the bhais ("Samundar ke baad Mumbai Shoaib se jani jaati hai!"). Shoaib picks up young Aslam (Imran) from the chawls and takes him under his wing. Their 'bhaihood' is bullet-proof, only until years later when starlet Jasmine (Sonakshi) walks in and arrests Shoaib with her charm and gullibility. The rogue turns Romeo with obsession, but she's already Aslam's chosen 'item'. Suddenly, the dons drop their other
deadly dhandas to deal with crimes of passion instead (unbelievable!).

Milan Luthria captures the essence of the period, packed with characters living behind 'dark shades' with an even darker conscience. This is a love story of a gangsta, it does not reopen dons' crime diaries. The first part is more engaging; thereon, the sluggish pace lacks the same dum. The heavy-duty dialogues (Rajat Aroraa) punch drama in the story, though at times too overbearing. The background score (Pritam & Anupam Amod) pitches in dramatically. This film has its moments, but it's not as compelling as the prequel.

Akshay does the bhai act with flamboyance and mojo. He gets a chance to do what he does best - herogiri (albeit less menacing, more entertaining), with charisma and clap-trap dialoguebaazi. Imran looks too suave for the part, but eventually rolls up his sleeves to play a don with dil, performing well in emotional scenes. Sonakshi pulls off a dabangg act to stand strong between two daunting dons.

John Abraham Madras Cafe to be screened in state

Madras Cafe
Pro-Tamil outfits not to allow John Abraham's Madras Cafe to be screened in state

After watching a special screening of John Abraham-starrer Madras Cafe here today, volunteers of pro-Tamil outfits denounced the film as 'anti-Tamil' and vowed to not allow its screening.

Even as promos of the film started flooding the media by early this month, pro-Tamil outfits like the Naam Tamizhar Katchi (NTK) besides Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) alleged that the film was anti-Tamil.

While PMK chief Ramadoss wanted the state and central governments to ban the movie, others warned of agitations. Actor-turned-politician Seeman-led NTK alleged that the movie portrayed the LTTE and its leader V Prabhakaran in bad light.

Although John Abraham later denied labelling anyone or group as terrorist in the film, it failed to cut ice with the groups.

Subsequently, the producers came forward to arrange a special screening for those who had apprehensions about it.

After watching the movie, Seeman said, "The aim of the movie is to portray Prabhakaran as a villain. We cannot accept the movie in any form. The heart of the film is anti-Tamil." He has urged the film exhibitors not to screen the film.

Film director R K Selvamani said the film featured Malayalees as patriotic persons attempting to save a former Prime Minister. "Everyone shown as good is a Malayalee and almost all Tamils are characterised as villains," he alleged.

Sources in the Tamil film industry said the movie's pivot was the killing of Rajiv Gandhi and the events that culminated in his assassination.

Sunny Leone's husband has no Bollywood aspirations

He is playing a cameo in wife Sunny Leone starrer Jackpot but Daniel Weber says he has no plans to have a career in Bollywood.

Daniel, who is Sunny's manager and owns an adult film production house, said he did the Kaizad Gustad film because the director requested him to.

"I don't have any Bollywood aspirations. I don't want to act in films. I own a production house in the US and I look after the business by sitting here. I also have to manage Sunny's schedules. I am quite busy in managing all these commitments," Daniel told PTI.

Daniel is also taking Hindi classes with his actress wife but he said that he is learning the language to run his business smoothly here.

"As we have shifted our base to India and are currently staying in Mumbai, it is very important to know the language of the country. I am not learning Hindi because I want to have a career in Bollywood," he said.

Daniel, who has acted in adult films before, said he is playing a foreigner in the film, which will hit theatres next year.

"We were shooting Jackpot in Goa and Kaizad needed someone for a cameo role. He approached me with the offer and I couldn't say no. I am playing the role of a conman and also share screen space with Sunny," he said.

The film also stars Sachiin Joshi, Naseeruddin Shah and Tamil actor Bharath.

Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult rekindle romance

Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult attended a party together on the weekend.

The couple - who recently reunited after ending their two year relationship in January - appeared to confirm their reconciliation as they arrived arm-in-arm for the wrap party of their new movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past, in Montreal, Canada.

A source previously revealed that the duo, who remained friends during their time apart, decided to give their romance another chance after spending time together on the set of the movie, which began filming in April.

A source previously set: "They started the shoot in April as just friends and then one day they started kissing. One thing lead to another and they hooked up. All her old feelings came rushing back. Jennifer has been telling people she's in love again."

The 23-year-old Oscar-winning actress previously gushed about her love for the British actor, 23.

She said: "He is honestly my best friend, and hopefully I'm his best friend, too ... I love being around him and he makes me laugh harder than anybody.

Five film actresses arrested in a call girl racket

Five television and film actresses arrested in a call-girl racket, operated from IAS officer's flat

Mumbai: Mumbai police officers have arrested 5 high profile call girls from an IAS officer's apartment in the posh locality of Lokhandwala. During the interrogation, the police officers discovered that all the five girls are known actresses; some of them have played character roles in Saas Bahu daily soaps. Others have also acted in Bhojpuri and C grade films.

One of the girls is a renowned television actress whose identity has been kept under wraps as the preliminary investigations are on.

Ironically, the flat B 1402 of Meera Towers where the sex racket has been busted belongs to an IAS officer.  This flat was rented to these high profile girls and their pimp Imtiaz Khan who also worked as a model coordinator.

The entire Meera tower at Oshiwara area  was formed as a society by the IAS and IPS officials and the pimp assuming it as a safe zone began discreetly using it as a den for supplying high class call girls.

"We got a tip and set a decoy that posed as a client and began bargaining", say police officials.

"Initially, the pimp quoted Rs. 1 lakh for a short time service but finally agreed for Rs. 25,000. As the amount was handed over, the actress started to walk out of the apartment with the decoy, we raided the premises and detained them,” say the investigating officer.

Veena Mallik locks lips with Ashmit Patel in Supermodel

Pakistani actress Veena Mallik, who has teamed up with her ex-flame Ashmit Patel in Supermodel, shot some steamy scenes for the movie with him despite the fact that the duo are not on talking terms.

"When I narrated the lip-lock scene to Veena, she refused to do it. I had to convince her a lot for that scene. There are around three to four lip-lock scenes between Veena and Ashmit in the film," the film's director Navin Batra told IANS.

"Both the actors were not on talking terms when they shot for the intimate scene, but they shot for the scene. But after a point they were not comfortable, so I had to cut a few scenes," he added.

The director purposely cast the controversial couple.

He said: "Veena suited the role and they are the most controversial and best selling couple. Yes, it was difficult to convince both of them, but despite not being on talking terms, they accepted the role and took it professionally."

While Veena plays a supermodel in the film, Ashmit will be seen as a photographer in the film slated for Sep 27 release.

Movie Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara!

What did you expect from the sequel of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai which came out in 2010? Given that its director and writer are the same, I knew that the clunkily-titled-and-spelt Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara! would tread the same territory: gangsters- muscle-flexing-in-Mumbai-which-used-to-be-Bombay, non-stop rat-a-tat of '70s style dialogue-baazi, loud background music, and a plot riddled with predictabilities from beginning to end.

What I wasn't prepared for was just how similar it would be, despite the change in leads (Ajay Devgn and Emran Hashmi have been replaced by Akshay Kumar and Imran Khan, and instead of Kangna Ranaut, there is Sonakshi Sinha), and after a point, just how listless it would turn out to be.

Hashmi's brash I want-to-take-over-everything Shoaib is played by Akshay Kumar in the new film. The character, fleshed out with nods to the dreaded Dawood (those distinctive dark glasses, and a penchant for cricket and betting) is first seen lording it over in what we presume is Dubai. Shoaib is ruthless and ambitious, and master of all he surveys, but `Bambai' calls to him because an underling (Manjrekar) who has dared to challenge him has to be set straight.

Once in Bombay, he whistles up his faithful. One of them is Aslam (Khan), whom Shoaib had taken over when he (Aslam) and his best friend Dedh Tang (Tripathy) were youngsters. But before the script turns its attention to these `bhais' duking it out in Dongri (or wherever it is that they hang out in large numbers), it comes up with a romantic distraction for both the main gents. The spirited Jasmine (Sinha) is new to Bombay, and a wannabe heroine. She is also more naïve than any young woman has the right to be.

Salman khan breaks up new girlfriend Iulia Vantur

Salman Khan is single again - breaks up with girlfriend Iulia Vantur?

Salman Khan's love life has always seemed to garner a whole lot of attention. Post his break-up with former flame Katrina Kaif, it was rumoured the Dabangg actor was blissfully in love with his Romanian girlfriend Iulia Vantur.

However, according to a reports in Mid-Day, Salman Khan and Iulia have called it quits.

The report further suggests that the real reason behind the split, is that the Khan family were not too pleased with speculations about Iulia's marital status.

According to reports, the Romanian actress and television presenter is apparently married to Grammy nominated musician Marius Moga. However, Vantur has denied the allegations.

Pictures of Iulia accompanying Salman Khan on the sets of Kick in Hyderabad were splashed all over the Internet recently.

However, that may have the been last people seen of Lulia as it's believed she has returned to Romania.

Salman Khan on the other hand has been maintaining a somewhat low profile of late.

The actor was spotted having a quiet Eid celebration along with his friend Baba Siddiqui.

As for those close-up shots of the couple's new bundle of joy, it looks like we're going to have to wait a bit longer as North West was fully covered in a car seat. You didn't think these two would show off baby North so easily, did you?

Deepika Padukone In today’s world girls don’t need to elope

In today’s world girls don’t need to elope: Deepika

Deepika Padukone, who plays a South Indian girl in love with a North Indian guy (played by Shahrukh) in Chennai Express claims that situations for love marriages have changed in India.

On being asked about parents' disapproval to marry in other caste in India, Deepika said, "Today's girls are so sure of what they want. Lifestyles have changed, cultures have changed. Girls have become a lot more vocal and they are in a better position today."

"May be that's why girls don't need to elope. Also parents understand it's not about religion, caste, but it's important that their daughter should be happy with whomsoever she wants to be married. Parents opposition might be in India, but its less in today's age in India," concluded Deepika.

Ranbir Kapoor often spotted in a Santacruz building

Ranbir’s often spotted in a Santacruz building

It's not as if Ranbir Kapoor is only spending time with Katrina Kaif. In fact, when the young actor wants to let loose, he is either with Ayan Mukerji or then a South Indian friend of his who resides in Santacruz.

People who live in the same building as RK Jr's friend are excited about the actor's nocturnal visits to their fancy building.

Onlookers say Ranbir is one of those chilled out guys who doesn't carry his superstardom into his edifice. He is happy to hang around the reception area of the housing complex without a care in the world.

Must say Junior is a good break from some other superstars who take the trappings of stardom too seriously and are constantly peeking over their shoulders to see if they are getting noticed.

Welcome to the new breed of celebrities who can differentiate between real and reel.

Teen Mom' Farrah Abraham Leaves Baby to Party in Las Vegas

Farrah Abraham set of 8 8x10" sexy photos Back Door Teen Mom bikini Teen Mom's Farrah Abraham's Twitter account is buzzing. Abraham is going to be leaving her baby girl, Sophia, behind to party "classy" in Las Vegas's Crazy Horse gentlemen's club. Yeah, that's really classy, but what do you expect from the reality TV diva turned porn princess?
Early this morning, Farrah tweeted, "Love my #LasVegas Best Club @CRAZYHORSE3LV (PIC) #PartyClassy ;)"

This girl is trying her best to stretch her 15 minutes of fame. Her moderate looks, nice body, and young age will keep her in the tabloids for a few more years, but her time is ticking down. Of course, you have to give this Teen Mom some credit because her constant feuding with other celebrities does keep her in the spotlight. Even though she claims she wants to "forget the BS," it's that BS that keeps her relevant.

Farrah Abraham is the epitome of trash from trash TV. She's constantly piping up about the Kardashian's but she doesn't have Kris Jenner as a manager; so don't expect Farrah to be around for much longer. She has t1he shelf-life of unrefrigerated milk.

Chennai Express sets new record at box office Fastest Rs100-crore earner

The new Shah Rukh Khan-starrer has done it. Chennai Express has earned Rs100 crore at the box-office over the opening weekend, the fastest Rs100-crore earner in the history of Indian cinema.

Concedes trade analyst Amod Mehra, “The paid previews on Thursday may have prevented the film from breaking records on the first day. But now over the weekend Chennai Express has broken all records and is the first film to cross Rs100 crore in just four days. The business of cinema is growing.

Give the audience decent entertainment backed by big stars and a festive time, and you will be assured big returns. Chennai Express proves it.”

Adds Taran Adarsh, “The collections are unimaginable, historic. It looks like a dream. Chennai Express has shattered all previous records and set a new benchmark at the box-office.”

Suniel Wadhwa, an independent distributor and box-office analyst comments, “Audiences boarded Chennai Express in huge numbers. The film has shattered all box-office records not only in India but also internationally. Rohit Shetty is the Manmohan Desai of the new millennium.

Chennai Express recorded the highest collections for a paid preview, also for the first, second and third day. It has also become the fastest century earner  and taken the top spot at the box-office.”

Opines Komal Nahata, “The weekend collections of Chennai Express is the hugest ever. Undoubtedly, it will become the fastest ever film to touch Rs100 crore.”

Spoilsport critics and other party-poopers be damned. Shah Rukh Khan’s latest release and his first sojourn into Rohit Shetty’s kingdom of the corny and the comic, has swept the box-office, making it the most successful opener of 2013 so far. Taran adds, “All previous records lie shattered. The season of biggies has commenced on a high note with a thundering success.”

Priyanka Chopra I like the idea of being called Exotic

Priyanka Chopra
Ten years in Bollywood and 31-year-old actress Priyanka Chopra has everything going for her -- a hit career where she has worked with the superstars of the film industry, lots of awards, including a National Award, a massive fan following and plenty of interesting movies in her kitty.

But when some people reach the top of the game, they want more.

That seems to be the case with Chopra, as she attempts to launch an international music career as well as acting opportunities in Hollywood.

One such opportunity came her way in Disney’s new animation film Planes, where Chopra does the voice-over for an Indian aircraft called Ishani, who participates in a world flying competition and is also the love interest of the film’s main protagonist plane, Dusty Cropper (the voice of Dane Cook).

Directed by Klay Hall, who has previously worked on hit TV shows such as The Simpsons and King of the Hill, Planes also features the voices of Terri Hatcher, John Cleese, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Val Kilmer, Sinbad and Cedric the Entertainer.  Clearly, Chopra is in esteemed company.

Chopra spoke to Aseem Chhabra by phone from Los Angeles, and discussed her Exotic plans.

It was really interesting to see an Indian character in an animation film. And if I am not mistaken, you probably are the first actor from India to do animation voice-over in the west.

I think so. I haven’t heard of anyone else who has done it.

Will Ekta Kapoor Once upon a Time in Mumbai Dobara

Once upon a Time in Mumbai Dobara
Will Ekta Kapoor & Milan Luthria be lucky Dobaara?

After three years, the sequel to Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai returns, bigger and with a new star cast. The sequel, Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Dobaara! stars Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Imran Khan and Sonali Bendre, with Akshay reprising the role of Emraan Hashmi (who played Shoaib), in a mature avatar for this film.

While most of the unit remains the same, (producer, director, writer and music composer) for OUATIM Dobaara!, will it prove to be as lucky as the original and will it be a bigger hit?

While OUATIM had great music with songs like Pee Loon and Tum Jo Aaye that topped the charts, OUATIM Dobaara! seems to have a lukewarm response to its music.

Once again there is a unique star cast for the sequel, just like the original which had Emraan Hashmi, Ajay Devgn and Kangana Ranaut. But this is something director Milan Luthria is used to. "Odd ball casting works for me in all my films, be it OUATIM, OUATIM Dobaara!, Taxi No. 9211, The Dirty Picture or Kachche Dhaage. A lot of questions were asked when I cast Emraan in OUATIM. Everyone said he was non conventional. I was told I had done the worst casting for Silk, who was a dancing superstar. But I wanted to give our film a unique look and it brings different audiences to theatres," says Milan.

While leading lady Sonakshi Sinha has delivered back to back hits, Akshay Kumar is not far behind. The Khiladi of Bollywood has been a mass entertainer and a favourtie with audiences. Viewers are also warming up to this unique star cast with Sonakshi Sinha being paired opposite both Akshay and Imran Khan. This could work in the favour of the film.

Director Milan Luthria comments on this star cast. "We needed an older Shoaib who was 15 years mature since this is a mentor protege franchise. We wanted to the protege from the earlier film to play a mentor in the sequel and that's why we chose Akshay. He was in talks with Ekta to do a film and he also wanted to work with me so why not? Akshay's into comedy and action of late so it was interesting to cast against his type, in an evil role. It will be a good change for his fans and as a director, I would have something different o play with. For Aslam's character, I wanted an earnest, righteous looking actor to play the role and that's how I cast Imran Khan. Sonakshi's a phenomenal actress and I've seen all her work. We wanted an Indian looking girl who is naive and comes from the North to make it into Bollywood. She had to look good against Akshay and Imran so I could not cast an older looking actress. I had to also ensure that Akshay did not look like a cradle snatcher and Imran did not look like a baby against Sonakshi. The actress had to fit well against both the male characters."

This time, the entire team is going all out to promote the film across every medium. But is too much visibility killing curiosity?

OUATIM Dobaara! has also been in the news as it was supposed to release on the same date as Chennai Express which released on Eid. But both Ekta and Milan pushed it by a week, thus cashing in on Independence Day. Milan also sorted the issue with Shahrukh Khan.

But with Chennai Express breaking all records on the day of its opening and still continuing to go strong, will it affect the box office opening of OUATIM Dobaara? Especially since Chennai Express will complete a week on 15th August (the same day that OUATIM Dobaara! releases).

Kangana Ranaut withe Anil Kapoor admirer

Anil Kapoor turns Kangana Ranaut admirer!

Anil Kapoor has always admired his daughter Sonam for her astute sense of fashion. But that doesn't mean he fails to notice other girls who are well dressed.

Anil, who was an emcee at a recent event, spotted a smartly turned out Kangana Ranaut. And he paid her a huge compliment about her innate sense of style.

The senior actor was heard asking the curly-haired actress about how she constantly managed to dress well.

Kangana was heard returning Anil's compliment saying, "Sir, you have such a well-dressed daughter." And the proud father accepted the compliment on his star-beti's behalf very gracefully.

Satyagraha Movie Music Review

The music album of director Prakash Jha's 'Satyagraha' boasts of seven tracks, including a remix and a house mix version of a track. Composer duo Salim-Sulaiman Merchant has kept the essence of the political thriller through a mixed bag of romantic and patriotic songs.

The title track "Satyagraha" leads the album with its high-on-energy music. Singers Rajiv Sundaresan, Shivam Pathak and Shweta Pandit's powerful rendition can give listeners goosebumps. The peaceful melody of the 'Raghupati raghav' hymn has been turned into this aggressive yet passionate song with commendable lyrics. The addition of rock music adds to the number. Thumbs up to this one!

"Aiyo ji" comes second in line. With the melodious Salim Merchant and Shraddha Pandit behind the mike, this one is an interesting contemporary track. It could have been a boring number, but its background beats save it. The lyrics have a sense of naughtiness, making it a perfect romantic number. A lot of special effects seem to have been added to the singers voices as well. This only adds to its beauty.

The remix of the number is a typical DJ version with more beats and fewer words. DJ Shiva does not bring anything new with the remix. Since the original is a slow romantic number, the fast-paced avatar lacks any chance of longevity of being played in discotheques.

Next on the list is "Raske bhare tore naina". Sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali and Arpita Chakraborty, it is a perfect blend of Indian classical music with everything Bollywood. Shafqat once again proves his singing prowess, and Arpita's voice blends in very well. It has a little regional influence in the lyrics. Undoubtedly, one of the finest compositions of the album.

The house mix version of "Raske bhare tore naina" gives the original track a twist. Singer Aadesh Shrivastava's voice replaces that of Shafqat, but he sounds equally melodious. The house mix broadens the mass appeal of the song, especially for youth.

Energy and passion reach their peak with Indian Ocean members Rahul Ram, Himanshu Joshi and Amit Kilam jamming in the song "Hum bhole the". A roaring 'jugalbandi' of sorts between the guitar and drums seem to emerge out of it, giving the number a certain level of aggression. A must hear.

"Janta rocks" is a good track; its peppy start can be misleading. The listener can lose interest after a bit as it is over seven minutes long. The lyrics are attention-grabbing and full of sarcasm, giving it a mass appeal, but even that fails to hold the listener's interest beyond a point.

Overall, the music of 'Satyagraha' might not have a long shelf life, but it definitely leaves an impact on the listener.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan No item song

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Rumours of an item song by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in her Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s under-production film Ram Leela have been making the rounds lately, making one wonder if the much-missed diva would dance her way back to the screen after her self-imposed sabbatical in favour of motherhood.

However, the filmmaker completely nixes the rumours. Says Bhansali, “First it was Sonakshi Sinha, then Madhuri Dixit. Now it’s Aishwarya. None of these rumours are true.” While Aishwarya remained unavailable for comment, a source close to her commented, “At the moment Aaradhya is Ash’s one and only priority.

Yes, she is slowly looking at scripts again, and some very good ones. But she
gets tempted, and then again she decides now is not the time. She doesn’t want to miss out a single moment in Aaradhya’s growing-up years.”

But Aishwarya may say yes to the Masoom remake to be produced by Himesh Reshammiya and directed by Bedabrata Pain. For one, it is a story that she loves. Secondly, the makers are willing to adjust the schedules according to her convenience.

Most of all, the film co-stars Abhishek, and Aaradhya can be with her parents as and when she wills. “But an item song? No way!” concludes the source.

Chennai Express Movie Review: This vehicle is worth being onboard for once!

If watching vehicle chase sequences, cars being blown up in the air and muscled goons is your film genre of choice, then you would know that we could be talking about Rohit Shetty of the Golmaal series fame. This time Rohit Shetty, one of the heavily critiqued film makers of the current crop for his directorial ways, has come up with Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Chennai Express.

Quite obviously, this unique combo of Shetty and Khan is enough to make one curious about their product. But once you go for it, you won’t regret watching ‘Chennai Express’, as you would have been after watching ‘Golmaal 2’ and ‘Golmaal 3’.

The journey on-screen begins with Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan back with one of his favourite screen names) on way from Mumbai to join his friends in Goa for a vacation. But at his foster grandmother’s behest, he reluctantly agrees to go to Rameshwaram to immerse the ashes of his dead grandfather. He boards Chennai Express but all his plans are foiled by a Tamilian damsel in distress – the runaway Meena – daughter of Komban village’s don Dugeshwara – who runs into Rahul accidentally while being chased by four of her brothers. Now as the story unfolds, it is revealed that Meena’s father wants her to get married against her wishes, and Rahul is supposed to be the girl’s knight in shining armour. The rest of the story is a riot of hilarious, romantic and action sequences with some interesting drama peppered and pickled in.

The Tamilian don and his henchmen (with hacking knives in hand) are shown in their full glory; as are the exotic locations down South. Seriously, cinematographer Dudley has an eye for capturing the Southern landscape in its abundance, and the breathtaking locations that one would see in ‘Chennai Express’ are going to make nature lovers fall in love with the lower reaches of the Indian subcontinent.

Crowd puller Shah Rukh Khan, in his act throughout the film, is zany, charming and at times flinching. On the other side, Deepika’s character exudes shades of rebellion, warmth and commitment. Her Hindi with Tamil accents sounds easy on the ears, convincing and humour inducing. Together the pair’s camaraderie on the celluloid results in funny situations and makes their chemistry more compelling.

The music of the film by composer duo Vishal-Shekhar boasts of a couple of good tracks like ‘Titli’ and ‘1 2 3 4 Get On The Dance Floor’. When played on the 70mm, the background number ‘Chennai Express’ ups the excitement level. But songs like ‘Kashmir Main Tu Kanyakumari’ could have been skipped. If we think from the film maker’s perspective, the so-called unwanted songs we are talking about would have been added with the idea of putting more depth to the romance angle of the film.

One of the downsides of ‘Chennai Express’ is its predictability. As the story moves forward, the guessing game becomes easier, thereby revealing the climax of the movie. Second, like any of the previous Rohit Shetty’s films, this one too is nothing really out-of-the box or one that can qualify for awards. It is Shah Rukh Khan’s act that makes the film substantial and keeps one hooked.

That said, if you ignore the few clichés (the repetition of ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ scenes and the lines that we have heard SRK speaking in his popular films), the lack of punch in the script and even the high predictability factor, then you are onboard for a fun ride with ‘Chennai Express’!

Bismillah Song Video Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara | Akshay Kumar,...

Special Eid song Bismillah from Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Dobaara

Though Ekta Kapoor postponed the Eid release for her upcoming gangster film Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara, she has capatilised on the occasion with a special song Bismillah.

The song featuring the film's lead actors Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan, is set in a quasi-Muslim milieu, making it appropriate for the occasion. The peppy club track shows Imran Khan wooing Sonakshi Sinha as Akshay Kumar eyes the pair viciously.

Like other song of the film, Bismillah also shows the 'This time its personal' tangent of the sequel to the 2010 film. Sonakshi Sinha is a refreshing change in a deep red dress and seductress' looks.

The song was recently shot in Film City at one of the nightclubs in Mumbai, which was recreated to give it an 80s ambiance. Bismillah is sung by Anupam Amod, with lyrics written by Rajat Aroraa.

Chennai Express Movie preview

While one waits to see if the Rs. 202 crore total of Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots would be threatened by Shah Rukh Khan's Chennai Express, it is pretty much expected in the trade that at least one record held by Ace Khan is set to be broken. This evening UTV is all set to bring the Rohit Shetty directed affair on a record number of prints, hence giving it the hugest Paid Preview release ever in the history of Bollywood.

This also means that 3 Idiots record of approx Rs. 2.5 crore, which it had earned a night before its full-fledged release, is all set to be broken.

"While typically Paid Previews arrive at 3 or 4 shows on a Thursday night, it is at least triple or more for Chennai Express. It is a huge exception that has been made since Shah Rukh Khan is looking at making the best use of the platform that is available for it. All major multiplex chains are screening 10-12 shows from Thursday evening itself and a huge inflow of moolah is expected," confirms a source.

While 3 Idiots stays on to be a record holder, recently Bhaag Milkha Bhaag too made a heady kick-start by accumulating more than Rs. 1 crore in Paid Previews. Prior to it some of the other notable films that have managed to strike a fortune a night before official release are Ghajini, Singh Is Kinng, Rock On and last year's Jism 2. Incidentally, the film that started it all was Shah Rukh's Don which had seen a modest, yet notable, Paid Preview release for itself.

Now the least that Chennai Express is expected to gather on Thursday is Rs. 5 crores, which would be double of what 3 Idiots had scored. However, few in the trade are pegging the number to be much higher.

Priyanka Chopra OMG is that your gun? can I hold it please

Priyanka Chopra
The promotional song Mumbai Ka Hero for Apoorva Lakhia’s Zanjeer is out. In the song, Priyanka Chopra, dressed in khaki hot pants and a tight shirt is slithering all over Ram Charan Teja suggestively and mouthing the following lewd words: ‘Oh My God, Is That Your Gun? Can I Hold It Please?’ Instant recall of classic Mae West dialogue from She Done Him Wrong, ‘Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?’ Yes, but one is cheesy, the other classy.

What was Priyanka thinking while shooting the song and uttering the suggestive words? Or did she not get the double-meaning in the Mumbai Ka Hero? “Oh I am sure she got it,” says a director who has worked with

the actress. “Come on, PC is just having fun with that song. Why not see it as ditsy spoof on those wide-eyed blonde videos?”

In one of the shots in the song, PC and Teja are facing each other and he holds out the gun in front of him, pointing downwards. Ms Chopra holds the gun, and goes down on her knees. It’s enough to ‘blow’ your mind. Wonder if such phallic references would be accepted by the audiences in the spirit of fun.

Recently the buxom starlet in the trailer of Grand Masti tells Vivek Oberoi, “I own two milk factories. If you wish I can give you their darshan in the night.” Another starlet coos over Riteish Deshmukh’s ‘rocket’. While that is fine in a sex comedy (one doesn’t really expect the makers of a sex comedy to show any kind of social responsibility) one does expect PC with her high-credibility level as an actress and an individual to steer clear of such lewd lyrics.

Jumping to her defence, one of her current directors says, “Priyanka is doing too many serious films like Barfi and Mary Kom. She has to bring out the lighter fun side of her personality.” Right.

Shah Rukh Khan's Chennai Express can break Box Office records

Chennai Express will be seeing one of the biggest releases ever

Last week, we carried a special feature on some of the records Shah Rukh Khan intends on breaking with his forthcoming release Chennai Express. In a follow up to the same, we take a look at some of the things the makers of the film are doing to ensure that the SRK - Deepika Padukone starrer verifies its claim to the top slot when it comes to record breaking films.

Garnering one of the widest release overseas/International markets

Starting off, what ensures a film's success is not only the lead actors, the script or the story, but even the release, and the market share captured by it. It's been reported umpteen times by now that the makers, UTV Motion Pictures and Red Chillies, are releasing Chennai Express in more theaters than any other Bollywood movie in the history of Indian cinemas overseas. In fact, the movie is releasing in 50+ countries and in 700+ screens which makes it the widest simultaneous world release for an Indian film. Apart from this, the film will also be releasing in Morocco, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Peru and Israel and that too on the same day and date.

Festive release date

Besides having the biggest worldwide release, the smart minds at the production houses are capitalizing on the festive weekend of Eid, which happens to be one of the biggest festivals in many Muslim countries like Gulf, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Now consider this, with the fact that in such territories almost no films releases during Ramzan, and the queue of release post the culmination of the holy month, coupled with the massive number of screens and not forgetting Khan's massive fan base, the film is a sure shot winner.

Commenting on the global release of the film, Amrita Pandey, Executive Director - Syndication, International Distribution & Disney Media Distribution, Studios, Disney UTV says, "There's been an obvious and huge demand for Chennai Express across cinemas worldwide. In many countries, Eid - school mid-term holidays have made next weekend one of the busiest in terms of number of English and international language releases. In such a week, the number of screens, locations and shows we've secured for this movie gives it the right footprint."
